WHILE I AM STILL
PHOTOGRAPHY by LINDA ALTERWITZ, Las Vegas
April 14 – June 13, 2014
Las Vegas multi-media artist Linda Alterwitz combines science and technology with landscape photography to explore the themes of scientific life and the human spirit. While I Am Still consists of three series: In-Sight (2010-2011), Portrait (2011-2012) and Remnants (2013-present). Alterwitz chooses elements that originate as medical imagery including P.E.T. scans, M.R.I.’s, radiographs, and sonograms selected for both their visual and scientific value, which she revisits with alternate imaging cameras. Combining her personal experience and technical explorations, the finished work reveals information obtained from the human body that is only visible with the aid of cutting-edge technology.
Alterwitz received the Nevada Arts Council’s Visual Artist Fellowship in 2014. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Israel. In 2012, Frank Pictures Gallery in Santa Monica, California (in Bergamot Station) debuted her series In-Sight. In 2011 she had solo exhibitions at LACDA (Los Angeles Center for Digital Art in Los Angeles, CA) and The Donna Beam Gallery (UNLV). Recent group exhibitions include The Art of Photography (San Diego, CA), Project Basho (Philadelphia, PA and Tokyo, Japan), and The Center for Fine Art Photography (Fort Collins, CO) among other national and international juried competitions.
