Artist Statement
Over the last three decades, Erika has engaged in artistic work as a means of creation, self-healing and self-expression.  She has dedicated her abilities, capabilities, skills & experience to sharing knowledge & experience to benefit our community.  And she loves the work.  There is no greater feeling for her than to know that through the learning/teaching process, she has touched & inspired other human beings in a way that changes their lives forever, and hers in the process as well.  She welcomes new challenges & new applications of her work to continue growing, improving & sharing as a teaching artist. After the studying, preparing, building experience & consistency, we must still let go of all of it & just create.  She believes that you cannot teach what you do not know, & you cannot teach what you do not love.  She views this belief as an opportunity to continue learning & applying herself to what she creates & what she teaches.  The excitement, the passion & the commitment she has always held for the process of spontaneous creation inspires others to continue the process as well because it’s thrilling, always new & always challenging.  The process requires openness to growth which can sometimes be painful.  Whether the art be performance, craft or word, engaging in this creative process teaches each of us to live more of a life of patience, creative fulfillment & surprise as we open ourselves to it & trust where it will take us.  She views the process as an invitation to dance a dance of freedom to create, without inner or outer judgment or restriction, with an eye on the goal to train our inner voice to let go & experience creative artistic growth in a fearless, adventurous, bold kind of way as part of a priceless human process that makes involvement in the arts meaningful, life-changing & fun.
