The Categories:

Excellence In The Arts
This award honors artists or arts-producing organizations whose work has achieved a level of excellence and who have made a significant impact in their community and/or the state.

Excellence in Folk and Traditional Arts
This award honors artists or organizations recognized as significant tradition-bearers or elders who demonstrate ongoing commitment to the preservation and perpetuation of traditional culture in Nevada.

Leadership in Arts: Education
Schools, individuals, organizations or businesses that have made significant contributions through leadership, creativity and partnership building to advance arts education in Nevada’s schools and communities.

Leadership in the Arts: Individuals
This award recognizes individuals, paid or volunteer, working in the arts that have demonstrated long-term leadership resulting in significant contributions to the arts in their community and/or the state.

Leadership in the Arts: Organizations
This award recognizes a nonprofit arts organization for exceptional artistic achievement, outstanding programming or specific leadership initiatives that have stimulated excellence, growth and support and/or availability of the arts in Nevada.

Patronage in the Arts
Individuals or businesses who have sustained and enhanced the arts in their community and/or the state, through contributions of time, effort or financial resources.

  • Remember! Clear and compelling Nomination Statements and relevant, readable support material assist the Board in making reasoned selections.

Deadline
November 16, 2009. Late or faxed nominations will NOT be considered.

Nomination Statement
Why should your nominee receive this award?  Please type or print clearly. Your statement must be limited to two pages of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. The following criteria MUST be addressed in your nomination statement:

  • Achievement by the nominee that relates to the award category description
  • Long term and ongoing contributions of the nominee
  • The impact on specific or local communities and/or the state
  • A reputation of excellence among professional peers

Nomination Support Material
Please submit NO MORE than:

  • 4 single-sided pages (8 1/2" x 11") of support materials that may include awards, citations, news clippings or reviews. If you submit Xeroxed copies, please make sure that they are clear for duplication purposes.

  • 2 pages of biographical or resume information

  • Up to 3 examples of artwork for nominations in the Excellence in the Arts or Folk Arts categories, i.e. slides, photos, pages of writing samples, or performance samples on CD’s, video or audio tapes.

  • 4 letters of support

It is the QUALITY of support letters, not the quantity, which makes a strong case. The Board of the Nevada Arts Council requests that nominators refrain from mounting campaigns that result in duplicative letters of support. The number of nominations reviewed per nominee has no bearing on the selection.

Thank you for your nomination. You will receive a written notification of the NAC Board’s selection of the 30th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards at the end of December.
